Fashion Classes

At Creative Styling we offer fitting and fabric suggestions for all of our Fashion Classes. Please call to book your time with Jo-Anne or Lorna before your class to get the pattern and fabric for your project.

~ Classic Shirt Lab
January 8, 12, 19 and 22 10-5
This is an open classroom event covering 4 days.
Students are only guided through the details of shirt making.
This is not a class in shirt making but rather a lab of students using our workroom to accomplish sewing a shirt. They may come and go at any time and may ask guidance during the day from on site staff. We will encourage the student in any way as they cut and sew a classic shirt.

~ Pant Fitting
February 4, 11 and 25 10-4
Sewing a pair of pants is fast and easy but if they don’t fit well they end up buried in the back of the closet. Let us help you fit your pants pattern to the Unique You. Once you have style that fits, you will make them again and again in wonderful seasonal fabrics.
Come prepared for class with a muslin basted together from your favourite pattern. Lorna will fit each student and show you how to mark and/ or change the muslin to best accentuate your good features. You will then move on to cut sew and fit a pair of great fitting pants. $200 ( pattern and fabric to be purchased at Creative Styling )

~ Pant Making Lab
February 5 and 26 10-4
This is an open classroom event covering 2 days and in conjunction with the Pant fitting Clinic ( Workroom and guidance Free of Charge) Students are only guided through the details of sewing pants. . ( pattern and fabric to be purchased at Creative Styling )
This is not a class in pant making but rather a lab of students using our classroom to accomplish sewing a pair of pants. They may come and go at any time and may ask for guidance during the day from staff. We will encourage the student in any way as they sew a pair of pants to success in pant making.

~ Kathryn Brenne - Tips and Techniques (2 Day Retreat)
February 17 and 18 10-5
Kathryn Brenne of The Academy of Fashion Sewing and Design will be holding a 2 day retreat in Tips and Techniques with the focus on Creativity and Techniques from her many published articles in Threads and Vogue Pattern Magazine. Students will have the opportunity to play with threads, fabrics, trims etc in this hands-on workshop. The retreats we host with Kathryn are very popular so register soon.
2 days $350 ( light lunches included ) plus kit fee approx $20

~ ISLANDER METHOD OF SEWING
**March 11 & 12
As a recent graduate of this intense course, Lorna Rae presents the first ever in this area “ Islander Method of Sewing” formulated by Janet Prey. Similar to industrial sewing methods using no pins this method has proven successful and is used by many avid sewers. Learn how to save precious sewing time as you complete a simple project in 2 days. $225 ( light lunches included )

~ PATTERN DRAFTING
**March 29, 30 & 31
Isidora Spielmann is a graduate of the National Academy of Fashion Design as ‘Master Tailor in Haute Couture’ in Vienna. She runs a successful custom clothing business and has consented to bring you 3 wonderful days of learning all about Pattern Drafting.
“Taking patternmaking from A-Z, in this 3 day workshop we will learn to make patterns from scratch as well as change existing patterns to fit better. Starting with taking measurements correctly, we build up from the basic shape.
We will make a pattern for a skirt … with the understanding of how paper and fabric translates to the shape of the body - participants will be able to work with any pattern, for any body, any fabric and style of fashion. After the initial basic paper pattern, each participant is encouraged to work out design concepts in the garments of their choice.”
Tuition $ 350 ( includes light lunches and muslin for project )

~ Jacket Classes
March 2, 9 and 16
This series of simple jacket classes will have you sewing up quick and easy pieces in a variety of fabrics and styles. Each class runs 10-5 Class Fee $65 each plus supplies.
The first is the ‘As you Wish Design’ using 3 pieces and can be lined to the edge or bound with trim. The second is the ever popular “Cuddle Coat” using a soft knit just perfect for Spring . The third is a Sewing Workshop pattern and is unlined yet unique with unusual seaming and details. Sign up for all three classes for special price of $150
Each class runs 10- 5 and fabric and patterns are available for purchase at our shop.

Note: Fit is so important to us! Get measurements taken when purchasing your fabrics, and we will guide you on what size to cut . If in doubt, please cut 1 size larger, we can always take in seams. If you feel you have significant fit issues, We will arrange for time to meet with you personally prior to class to address any pattern alterations.
Minimal Fee of $10 for fitting time.
